Early Life and Education

Michelle Forbes was born Michelle Renee Forbes Guajardo on January 8, 1965 in Austin, Texas. As a teenager, she attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, where she trained as an actor.

Television Career

In 1987, Forbes had her career breakthrough with her very first major television role, on the daytime soap opera "Guiding Light." She played the dual roles of Sonni Carrera-Lewis and Solita Carrera for three seasons, and earned a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for her work. Forbes had her next substantial role from 1991 to 1994, as Ensign Ro Laren in the final three seasons of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." After that, from 1996 to 1998, she played the main role of M.E. Julianna Cox in seasons five and six of the NBC series "Homicide: Life on the Street." Kicking off the new millennium, Forbes had a recurring role in the first season of the CBS series "The District" and a main role on the short-lived ABC series "Wonderland." Next, from 2001 to 2004, she played the main role of Susan Metcalfe in the first three seasons of the British series "Messiah." During that time, Forbes appeared in the television film "Jackson County War" and played the recurring role of Lynne Kresge in the second season of the Fox series "24." From 2005 to 2006, she had recurring roles in the second season of "Battlestar Galactica" and the first season of "Prison Break." Forbes first appeared on the big screen in 1993, when she was in both the comedy "Love Bites" and the thriller "Kalifornia." She subsequently had prominent roles in the 1994 films "Swimming with Sharks" and "Roadflower." In 1995, Forbes starred in the crime thriller "Black Day Blue Night," and in 1996 she had a supporting role in John Carpenter's post-apocalyptic action film "Escape from L.A." Her next substantial film role was in the 2001 improvisational ensemble film "Perfume," in which she played the live-in girlfriend of Jared Harris's fashion photographer. Forbes subsequently appeared in the 2002 film "American Girl." A couple of years after that, she was in "Dandelion."

After not appearing much on the big screen in the second half of the '00s, Forbes became relatively more prolific in the 2010s. In 2013, she appeared in the dramedy "Highland Park," and in 2015 she appeared in the dystopian action film "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2," the fourth and final installment in the "Hunger Games" film series. In 2017, Forbes played the recovering drug addict mother of Haley Lu Richardson's main character in Kogonada's acclaimed drama "Columbus." Also that year, she played the agent of Zoë Kravitz's movie star character in Aaron Katz's mystery thriller "Gemini."
