Career Beginnings

Having taken dance classes from the age of four, Manobal regularly competed in dance contests growing up. She eventually joined the 11-member dance crew We Zaa Cool, with which she won an award in a televised competition. At the age of 13, Manobal successfully auditioned to join the South Korean record label YG Entertainment. She subsequently moved to South Korea, where she became the first non-ethnically Korean trainee at the label. Later, Manobal appeared in the music video for her label-mate Taeyang's single "Ringa Linga."

Blackpink

Manobal rose to fame in 2016 as one of the four members of the South Korean girl group Blackpink, which was formed by YG Entertainment. Using the stage name Lisa, she was joined by Jisoo, Jennie, and Rosé. Blackpink's first release was the debut single album "Square One," which featured the hit singles "Whistle" and "Boombayah." The group subsequently released "Square Two," which launched the hit single "Playing with Fire." In 2018, Blackpink expanded its international reach with the single "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du," which became the first song by a Korean female group to enter the UK Singles Chart and to be certified gold in the United States. The song was included on the group's first Korean EP, "Square Up." Also in 2018, Blackpink collaborated with singer Dua Lipa on the hit song "Kiss and Make Up." The group continued its success in 2019 with its second Korean EP, "Kill This Love," which debuted at number 24 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the hit title track.

Blackpink released its debut studio album, "The Album," in 2020. Supported by the successful singles "How You Like That," "Ice Cream," and "Lovesick Girls," the album debuted at number one in South Korea and number two on the Billboard 200 in the US. It also reached number one in Mexico and New Zealand. Blackpink released its second studio album, "Born Pink," in 2022. An even bigger hit, it made it to number one in South Korea, the US, the UK, and Canada, and became the best-selling album by a female act in South Korean history. "Born Pink" spawned the successful singles "Pink Venom" and "Shut Down." Blackpink went on to embark on the Born Pink World Tour, which broke the record for the highest-grossing concert tour by a female group, as well as for the most-attended concert tour by a K-pop girl group. The group has broken numerous other records, including for the most-subscribed-to and most-viewed music artist channel on YouTube and the most-followed and most-streamed girl group on Spotify.
